Staff Machine Learning Engineer
YOUR MISSION AT VOI
As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, you will design, build and maintain machine learning models for all our business areas. You will work on problems that combine machine learning, software engineering, data science, data engineering and AI/API engineering. You will contribute to solutions around vehicle availability, reliability & safety, user experience personalisation and parking, primarily in a team focused on predicting future demand for vehicles — where and when they will be needed — and on anticipating maintenance needs to enhance user experience.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Act as an embedded member of a cross-functional product team, taking end-to-end ownership of machine learning and AI projects—from identifying business problems and formulating hypotheses to defining data requirements, prototyping, production implementation, and measuring business impact.
- Maintain and improve VOI’s machine learning platform to ensure adherence to state-of-the-art MLOps standards, with team support.
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve team processes and promote mutual learning and knowledge sharing.
For the staff level, additional responsibilities include:
- Contribute to setting strategy and goals at the R&D level, balancing engineering judgement with business priorities.
- Drive architecture and system design across multiple teams, influencing strategic engineering decisions and direction across R&D.
- Work closely with product leadership to influence product direction and translate that into strategic technical decisions for parts of the tech stack beyond the immediate team.
- Advance ML and AI excellence throughout VOI, including skill development and process/workflow refinement.
What you need to embark
We’re looking for a Machine Learning professional with experience in a fast-paced environment. In addition to English fluency, the right person has:
- Higher education in a mathematical/technical field (e.g., computer science, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics) or a similar, data-centric degree
- A strong business sense with a focus on business value and user impact
- Fluency in Python and software engineering in general
- Documented experience in developing production-quality software
- Experience with real-time inference and/or MLOps in one of the major cloud environments
- Experience with edge machine learning and computer vision is a bonus
- Hands-on contribution to managing projects from start to finish—from tackling business challenges to planning, building, launching, and monitoring results
